What's New in Health Care 2013

Now that three urgent care clinics in Ascension Parish have merged ownership and operations under the name Lake Urgent Care, their combined resources will allow greater efficiency and streamlining leading to shorter wait times and improved access to care for local residents.

The new partnership means the names of the existing centers, Ascension Urgent Care, St. Elizabeth After Hours Prairieville and St. Elizabeth After Hours Burnside, will all be updated to Lake Urgent Care. The three clinics now operate as a joint venture of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Ascension Urgent Care.

Dr. Glen Neal, who has forged deep relationships with his Ascension patients as director of Ascension Urgent Care, will now serve as medical director of the three clinics. Dr. Neal offers more than a decade of experience specifically in urgent care settings and plans to bring his knowledge of the community and the area’s specific needs to each of the clinics. Kyle Juneau, N.P., will serve as the administrator and oversee daily operations, leveraging his expertise from working in emergency room settings.

“The new partnership will bring consistency and a more comprehensive scope of health care services to the residents of Ascension Parish,” says Steve Sellars, CEO of Lake Urgent Care and Premier Health. “Our partnership empowers us to provide improved access to care for patients who aren’t able to take time away from work or school, along with a coordinated effort to make treatment available during evenings, weekends and holidays.”

Sellars adds, “Our hospital partners, Our Lady of the Lake and St. Elizabeth Hospital, and the St. Elizabeth Physicians, have been providing quality care to the residents of Ascension Parish for many years. The growth in the Ascension area has led to the availability of a larger primary care and specialty network of health care providers, as well as more options for ancillary care.”

Now, Lake After Hours and Lake
Urgent Care will have 14 total urgent care locations in Baton Rouge, Prairieville, Gonzales, Central, Denham Springs, Hammond, Brusly and Zachary. Our Lady of the Lake opened its first after-hours clinic 14 years ago, and the convenience and popularity with patients has driven steady growth and expansion.

Most importantly, the clinics address a critical reality of today’s health care infrastructure: With an aging population, overcrowded emergency rooms, a shortage of primary care physicians and rising medical costs, many local residents can find accessing quality health care a challenge.

“Our urgent care centers are well-positioned to assist our hospital partners, emergency departments and the primary care system in providing convenient access to quality, cost-effective health care services,” notes Sellars. “With our broad scope of services, barrier-free access and low overall cost for patients, our urgent care centers are a logical part of the solution to the health care problems many people face today.”
