IF YOU KNOW anything about Turner Industries and its chairman and CEO, Roland Toups, you know he means it when he says, “Our goal at Turner Industries is to be the very best we can be in everything we do. The goal includes much more than just having a good return on investment at the bottom line. Turner’s priorities dictate that ‘R.O.I’ first and foremost stands for ‘Return on Integrity’. No shortcuts, play by the rules—the only way to build a solid and sustainable enterprise. It is an absolute must in our corporate culture. Our definition of integrity is broadened beyond the all-important concept of business ethics. We always include the obligation to live by the Golden Rule and treat our employees and their respective communities as integral partners to our success.”

This brand of leadership, fully supported by the Bert S. Turner family, owners of the 55-year-old, heavy industrial services company, has served Turner Industries well.

Several significant acknowledgements and milestones made 2015 a very good year for Turner Industries.

Safety: The company received the Associated Builders and Contractors National Safety Excellence Award. “As one of only 20 NSEA winners in the country, Turner is part of a select group of ABC contractor members whose achievements in the field of construction safety can be considered exceptional,” says Chris Williams, director of safety of Associated Builders and Contractors.

“Nothing is more important than providing a safe working environment for our employees, and we are extremely proud of them. They worked more hours, more safely than ever before in the history of the company,” says Chief Operating Officer J.W. “Billy” Guitreau.

Workforce Development: Com-mitted to building the skilled craft workforce of the future, Turner created a new mobile accessible website and career portal to appeal to its workforce population. The site along with the development of other proprietary recruiting programs resulted in Turner being awarded the prestigious, national Construction Users Roundtable Workforce Development Award for the third time since 2008. Business Ethics: Turner was proud to receive the 2015 Douglas Manship Sr. Torch Award for Ethics in Business, presented by the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana. The Manship Award honors those businesses that exhibit the highest ethical standards of behavior toward customers, suppliers, users, shareholders, employees and the community.

United Way: The year’s end culminated in the company’s most successful United Way campaign ever, raising $2.2 million in its nationwide job site campaign. $781,714 of the total was pledged to the local Capital Area United Way here in Baton Rouge.

Industry Rankings: “The concurrence of our being recognized for business ethics and our 2015 operational success is no coincidence,” says Thomas H. Turner, vice chairman and president. “The way in which we have always conducted our business continues to yield positive results.” In 2015, the company retained its No. 1 ranking on Engineering News-Record ’s annual Texas & Louisiana Top Contractors list. Turner has held this ranking since 2011.

Technological Advancement: Turner was also honored in 2015 for the demonstration of excellence and achievement of technology in business with several technology awards including the Constructech Magazine Gold Vision Award, the Information Week Elite 100 Award and the CIO 100 Award.

“Although we remain cautiously optimistic about the industrial environment in 2016 and 2017, we know our success would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of thousands of Turner Industries employees, and we thank them,” says Roland Toups.
