Genityte® is a new laser treatment being offered by The Medical Spa of Baton Rouge for several medical conditions that result from pelvic floor relaxation. These conditions include leaking urine, vaginal wall prolapse (weakening) and leaking stool.

Genityte® uses a form of infrared light. The safety and benefits of infrared light have been established over the past 40 years. We safely deliver broad band infrared light through the skin, targeting the layer of skin responsible for structural support. Advanced technology combined with advanced treatment protocols have resulted in this very successful new treatment option for dramatic toning of the skin, muscle and connective tissue of the pelvic floor. 

Through the natural process of childbearing and aging, women lose elasticity, collagen and tone in the pelvic floor. It is normal for women to complain of urinary leaking after coughing and sneezing and during exercise due to these changes; this is called stress incontinence. Kegel (pelvic floor ) exercises sometimes help but do not completely alleviate these symptoms. Some women have unrelated urinary urges and increased daytime and nighttime frequency due to urge incontinence. Genityte® has been shown to improve stress incontinence by 80% and mixed stress and urge incontinence by 70%. FDA-approved surgical procedures whereby foreign material is surgically placed for support under the opening where urine exits, called the urethra, is called a “sling.” Many sling procedures have had multiple complications and have been pulled by the FDA. These procedures only treat stress incontinence, and Genityte® is a definite competitor for appropriate patients after evaluation. With Genityte®, there is no downtime and no pain, and this procedure does not require any anesthesia or recovery. 

Genityte® is also very successful in improving tone in the vaginal wall and pelvic floor, therefore treating prolapse of the vagina, bladder (cystocele) and rectum (rectocele). This procedure restores structure, and therefore it also restores function. Symptoms such as rectal incontinence, hemorrhoids, pelvic discomfort and decreased rectal tone improve and in many instances completely resolve. Many women also enjoy the secondary benefits of vaginal rejuvenation as a result of the Genityte® treatment, though this is not the reason we perform this treatment.
